Scouting newest Ohio State Commit

Tight end Blake Thomas of St. Ignatius High School in Cleveland, Ohio recently made a commitment to Ohio State. Scott Kennedy, Director of Scouting for Scout.com, watched two games of him in action and has the highlights inside.

Blake Thomas (6'4/235) of St. Ignatius High School in Cleveland, Ohio is a tight end who recently committed to Ohio State (story). He has good size and is an excellent blocker. He lines up in the slot at times, but mostly it's to set up a screen pass to a wide receiver.

While he's not a big part of the St. Ignatius passing game, he's a dependable part of it. In the games against Centerville and Lancaster, Thomas was targeted four times with catchable passes; he had four catches.

To be a bigger part of the passing game, he'll need to refine his routes and get in and out of his breaks more quickly, but he can be an asset in a power running game virtually right away. Several times during the Centerville game he was lined up against Scout's No. 3 ranked outside linebacker Ifeadi Odenigbo, and the bigger, stronger Thomas had his way with him in the running game.

For the sake of full disclosure, once Centerville took a commanding lead, and removed the threat of the run game from St. Ignatius arsenal, Odenigbo took over the game rushing the passer.

Thomas plays at a high energy level, not taking plays off, and he does a good job of following plays and getting extra blocks downfield when he's able.

Thomas is scheduled to be rated a 3-Star prospect, ranked No. 19 at his position nationally when Scout's rankings are updated later today.
