Ferguson Making His Move

Tyler Ferguson

Bakersfield (Calif.) Ridgeview QB Tyler Ferguson is continuing his strong spring. He first caught our eye at the Passing Down Elite 7-on-7 San Ramon Regional, and he's followed it up with solid performances at the BadgerSport Elite 7-on-7 in Las Vegas and Passing Down Newport. Last Friday, he was one of the top QB at the Elite 11 camp in Palo Alto. Check inside for the latest in his recruitment…

Tyler Ferguson (6-4, 190) drew comparisons to another Bakersfield signal caller – Cody Kessler – last weekend at the Elite 11 regional camp and Stanford NFTC. While Ferguson doesn't posses the same arm strength as Kessler, he is taller and has a very similar release and touch on his passes.

"It was great competing with all the competition," said Ferguson. "It was a lot of fun."

After most of the 100-plus quarterbacks departed the camp, Ferguson and few others were asked by the camp coaches to run through a few more drills afterward. "At the end, they grab all the top guys, Connor Brewer, Zach Kline, Jake Rodrigues…"

"It was a two-minute offense [drill] seeing how much we can process information. They gave us all the plays in the beginning. Then after about five minutes, they wanted to see if we could come back and do it."

Ferguson holds one offer from San Jose State with a few more schools showing interest during the spring evaluation period.

"Washington has been on me pretty hard," he said. "San Diego State a little bit, Utah and San Jose State but that's about it. I'm still a bit under the radar."

Ferguson continues to express interest in SEC schools, but he has only received emails and a few letters from those schools. But his recent performance could push over the hump despite his modest assessment.

"Not at the top, because you're never atop, you have to keep working," explained Ferguson. "But I mean my stock rose a little bit competing with the best of the best. We'll see how it happens."

He says his camp schedule is up in the air but plans to camp at San Diego State, UCLA, Utah, and possibly Washington this summer.
