Scout Update: DB Dashone Smith
After finishing up his junior season, Houston (TX) Klein Oak defensive back Dashone Smith had a strong feeling that he would not finish his junior season without getting a Division I offer. Clearly that was the case. When the Panther team finished up the spring game last Thursday, the 5-11, 185-pound Smith will get the summer started with three offers. "I have a Nevada, Minnesota and Texas State offer. It felt really good to get those in," Smith said. "I just had to keep my head up and I knew eventually I would get some. Had to keep pushing and pushing." And that pushing continued on throughout the off season as Smith said that his focus, like many others, was the get bigger and faster, both of which he was able to do. So it is safe to say that his final year at Klein Oak could trump a junior season where he recorded 102 tackles a sack and two interceptions, one of which went for a score. Aside from the programs that have offered, Texas Tech, UTEP, LSU and Texas A&M also have shown some interest throughout the process. Most of these schools have told Smith that they like him at the safety position.
