In the midst of a devastating week following the resignation of head coach Jim Tressel, Ohio State received good news Wednesday with the commitment of Tyvis Powell. The Buckeyes landed the three-star safety shortly after extending the offer, with Powell becoming the eight commitment for their 2012 recruiting class.

Ohio State landed a commitment from Bedford (OH) safety Tyvis Powell, some good news for the troubled program still reeling from Monday's resignation of head coach Jim Tressel.

Powell, 6-foot-3, 185-pounds, is ranked as a three-star prospect, and he committed to the Buckeyes over West Virginia, Michigan State and Syracuse.

"It has always been my dream to play for Ohio State, and today my dream came true," Powell stated from his high school.

Bedford head coach Sean Williams is quite high on his young star, saying "Tyvis is one of the best young men I've had the pleasure of coaching. I think he is EXACTLY what Ohio State needs right now, on and off the field."

Scout.com will have more from the Powell announcement throughout the day.
