"Memphis offered me today," said Danley. "I went to their camp and I ran like a 4.93 in the 40.
"I did real good in the one-on-ones and when it was over they offered me a scholarship."
Coach Jay Hopson is Jamal's area recruiting coach and the talented big man believes the two have a good relationship.
"I like Memphis," said Danley. "They have a good coaching staff there and it's not too far from home."
The camping trip to see Coach Larry Porter and his Tigers was the first of three early trips Jamal plans to take.
"I am going to Southern Miss and then I am going over to Mississippi State," said Danley. "Southern Miss has been talking about signing me, but they haven't offered me yet.
"Mississippi State says they like me as a defensive end and that's fine too. I will play whatever."
The rising senior reports that he is in no hurry to decide, but that he has a sense of relief now that offer number one is in hand.
"I am glad to get this first one, but I know it's not going to be my last one," said Jamal. "I am going to take my time and see what happens before I make a decision."
Last week in Tupelo at the Steve Robertson Southeast Select Combine, Danley earned All-Combine honors.
The athletic big man measured in at 6-3, 251 and recorded a 40 time just over 5.00.
