Chungong Claims Top Two
Georgia Tech has been the front-runner for defensive lineman Roderick Chungong of Good Counsel (Md.). Then Rutgers slipped into the equation after a visit to the Scarlet Knights. And now, Virginia is high on his list. "My number one is Georgia Tech and UVa is my number two, next to Georgia Tech. Rutgers is...I would probably put them at number three." Chungong has moved UVA to the number two spot because of the recent rapport he has built with Coach Poindexter and his respect for head coach Mike London. "Coach Poindexter is visiting our school frequently and shows a lot of interest. I think highly of UVA and coach London, more than just a head coach but as a person. He always keeps his word. His word is his bond. That is what makes UVA stand out to me." While he respects the UVA coaching staff, he still says Georgia Tech is number one because of his bond with defensive coordinator Al Groh, his love for a city campus and the opportunity for early playing time. "The first time I met coach Groh, he woke me up from a nap," he laughs. "We have a great bond. He was talking about how the team could use me early. I went on my visit and liked it a lot. Georgia Tech just feels like home. I am a city boy. I don't like the country. It is easy for my mom to get to when she comes down there, if I choose to go there and she comes to watch me play. I have family down there too." So when will Chungong pull the trigger? "I was thinking about making it soon and have had thoughts about it. I am going to make it when it feels right, maybe during the season." For now, he is focused on finding a summer job. "I have to find a job this summer to help my mom and maybe I will take two more visits."
