Smith On the Move
Donovan Smith profile "I went to Memphis this past weekend and I had a great time," said Smith. "I ran a 4.55 in the 40. That was a pretty good time, but I know I can do better. "I did really well in the one-on-ones. I had a real good day in those drills. None of the corners there could really guard me." It did not take long for Donovan to catch the eye of the Tigers' coaching staff. "My dad had a long talk with Coach Porter," said Smith. "I got to talk to most of the coaches and I got a really good vibe from them. "I just got that feeling that they were interested in me. I really hope that Memphis turns out to be my first offer." A day later, the Ocean Springs standout made the drive over to Starkville to work out with the Bulldogs of Mississippi State. "The camp went good at Mississippi State," said Donovan. "I ran a 4.51 in the 40 and I had a good day in the drills. "I did pretty good in the one-on-ones, but it was more of a challenge because they had some better corners there. "All in all, I feel like I did pretty well at Mississippi State." Smith and his father will be on the move again in the near future as they take in camps at Louisiana, Southern Illinois and Southern Miss. The time on the road has been an enjoyable experience for both father and son. "I am having a good time going to all of these places with my dad," said Smith. "He spends a lot of time with me at these camps, so I feel like I am kind of playing for two. "He's bringing me everywhere and I feel like I am paying him back by going off and doing the best I can do everywhere I go."
