The summer camp season gives prospects the chance to get out and show their mettle in front of coaching staffs first hand.
Many times this gives coaches the chance to see how coachable a player is or see how he performs in drills that he finds to be the most valuable for assessment.
Micah Awe, a 6-foot-0, 195-pound athlete from Mansfield Summit High in Texas is one prospect who took advantage of the summer.
He went in to Texas Tech camp this weekend and after a solid performance where he ran a 4.52 forty-yard dash he was tendered an offer from the Red Raiders coaching staff.
And late on Tuesday evening it was confirmed that the offer was quickly accepted, as Awe pledged to sign with Tech come February.
"I just verbally committed to Texas Tech," exclaimed Awe!
As a junior, Awe racked up 116 tackles and 20 tackles for a loss to earn All-District honors.
The up and coming prospect was also one of the top performers at the Nike SPARQ combine in Dallas when he posted a 40.1-inch vertical jump.
