Lakewood (Calif.) receiver Malik Gilmore didn't see the reason to drag out his recruitment.
So this week, Gilmore made his commitment, picking Oregon State.
"I committed on Thursday night," said Gilmore. "I told Coach (Brent) Brennan I was committing."
Then on Friday, he told the Beavers head coach, Mike Riley, he wanted to be a Beaver.
"It was the best fit and Coach Riley said I'm going to do big things there," said Gilmore. "He said that I'm going to be a great addition to their program and that they are excited."
Their excitement was matched by Gilmore's.
"I'm really excited about it and it's a great opportunity for me," said Gilmore. "There is a good chance for me to play early."
Gilmore had a number of other offers, but ultimately, the family feel he got from Oregon State played a deciding role.
"Out of all the coaches I met, I really liked the Oregon State coaches," said Gilmore. "They're like a family."
And Gilmore is relieved to get the decision over with.
"Yeah, I'm very relieved and now I don't have to worry about it anymore," said Gilmore.
