Blackburn Pledges to Toledo

From the Detroit Crockett Rockets to the Toledo Rockets, quarterback Brian Blackburn committed yesterday and explained his decision to Scout.

Brian Blackburn made the trip from Detroit to Wyandotte yesterday where Toledo was having their satellite camp.

The 6'5, 210-lb Crockett Vocational Tech quarterback was not there to work out like the hundreds of other high school prospects in attendance though, he was there to commit.

Blackburn had offers from Central Michigan and Buffalo as well, but picked Toledo for a couple of reasons.

"The offense," he said. "I fit the offense perfectly and their coaches are real cool."

The potential to see early time was also attractive to Blackburn.

"When I get there I think their quarterback will be a senior, so after that, it will be wide open for me."

Blackburn could have made his commitment over the phone, but saw the opportunity to tell the staff in person and he says head coach Tim Beckman was glad he did.

"He said he's happy I made the decision and they want me to lead them to a MAC championship and some big upsets."

While the process did not drag on for Blackburn like it will for other recruits, he is nonetheless, relieved to be done with it and excited to be a Rocket again.

"I'm happy. I'm happy it's all over with and I can focus on the season."

As a junior, Blackburn went 134 for 219 (61%), 2234 yards, 20 touchdowns and eight interceptions. He rushed for 1,049 yards and nine touchdowns.
