Midwest Regional Manager

Fort Wayne Bishop Luers (IN) QB James Knapke talks about his Bowling Green commitment.

As it turns out, the first offer was the right offer for James Knapke, a 6'2, 185-lb gunslinger from Fort Wayne Bishop Luers.

Knapke committed to Bowling Green on Sunday, despite the possibility of more offers coming as the summer went on into the fall, but he says it was simply the right place for him.

"Well, Coach Ruggiero came down a couple months ago to watch me throw and I talked to him the next day, and wanted me to know I had an offer from Bowling Green. That was my first offer, so it definitely meant a lot to hear that from that type of program."

What that early offer allowed Knapke to do was get familiar with the coaches and program at Bowling Green.

"Over these past couple months, I've taken several visits and developed a great relationship with Coach Clawson and Coach Ruggiero. It's family oriented there and they love to throw the ball, which is what I love to do. Coach Ruggiero has a great background of coaching quarterbacks and helping them get to th next level. In talking with my family about it, we felt like it was the right decision and it feels great to be part of the Falcon family."

Knapke has had a great summer. He was one of Scout's top performers at the Columbus Elite 11 and other events. He is on his way to becoming a complete quarterback and there is a chance for him to compete early in college.

"They said they love to carry four quarterbacks, which is what they have now, and they plan to bring in a quarterback every year, which is good to keep the competition up. They like to redshirt their quarterbacks, but if I go in and I'm the best guy, they said the best guy will play. I just want to get better now, focus on my team with the decision made. I'm looking forward to getting down there, win some games and be part of a great program."

Knapke has had many supporters throughout the process, including his parents, siblings and grandfather who have traveled with him from place to place and helped him reach a decision. He also has received training on and off the field from AWP Sports Performance, a Fort Wayne based group who he had special words for on his momentous day.

"They've been a tremendous help both in the weight room, helping me get stronger, faster, and helping me be a better person. They helped me get exposure to all the coaches from going to 7 on 7 s and all these camps. They've helped me tremendously and I want to thank them. Mr. Ledo and all they guys have been a great help and I appreciate it."
