offered one of the top 2013 prospects in Ohio today, Pickerington North defensive end Jake Butt
, a 6'6, 220-lb prospect who had 50 tackles, 15 for loss, and 6.5 sacks last season.
"I talked to their recruiting coordinator close to the end of school," he said of the Bruins. "We had a good long talk, I told them about my GPA, which they really like and they have a good medical school. They have a good football program, and we had a good talk and got his contact and a camp invite, but they understood that would be hard to go all the way out to California."
So the Bruins decided that they would offer him without the camp trip, adding to previous offers from Bowling Green and Buffalo.
"It feels really good. That's my biggest offer right now and somewhere all the way across the country, so it shows they're really interested in me."
A visit, like the camp, may be tough to make happen, but Butt said, "I'll talk to my parents and see if we can't go out there, visit the school and visit the campus. It's a real good school, and I'd like to explore my options."
Butt has camped at Cincinnati, Bowling Green, Purdue, and most recently, Notre Dame and Ohio State. The Fighting Irish are a school he has some interest in because of family ties.
"Oh I got really good feedback [at Notre Dame]. I got to tour the campus, see the field, the locker room, the facilities there, and I got to work out with the seniors there. It was their three day camp and over 300 kids were there and I got to work with the seniors. I thought I did real well and I had good talk with them. My grandpa actually played there."
Butt had a similarly strong showing at the Ohio State camp.
"Well, I performed real well in 1-1 pass rush drills and got complemented on that by the coaches and how I use my hands. They said they would stay in contact and keep me updated on everything."
