New Level 7v7 Preview: Goon Squad

Most of the teams set to compete in the New Level 7-on-7 National Championship are assembled from players hailing from one state, but the Goon Squad has reached out across the country to get its talent from here and there. It may be the most intimidating team in the tourney.

QB Zeke Pike, a 6-foot-6, 225-pounder from Dixie Heights High in Ky., is rated as the #3 QB prospect in the country by Scout.com and is committed to sign with the defending National Champion Auburn Tigers. Schools like, Arkansas, Alabama, and Florida State also offered.

QB Eddie Printz, a 6-foot-3, 198-pounder from Lassiter High in Ga., has one of the top young arms in the South and schools like Kentucky and SMU have already offered.

WR Gehrig Dieter, a 6-foot-3, 210-pounder from Washington High in Ind., reports an offer from Wisconsin and virtually all of the MAC programs. He has had a nice spring/summer on the camp circuit.

WR Elliot Faerber, a 6-foot-4, 190-pounder from Shawnee Mission East High in Kan., is talked about as being one of the most under the radar players in the region, despite the fact that he is already committed to play for a BCS school.

TE/WR Jason Croom, a 6-foot-5, 233-pounder from Norcross High in Ga., holds offers and is considering schools like FSU, Tennessee, Miami, Mississippi and Mississippi State. He is rated as a 4-star receiver, but is built like a tight end. It will be interesting to see where he falls after seeing him amongst some other top receiver targets.

WR Roger Lewis, a 6-foot-2, 190-pounder from Pickerington Central High in Ohio was named as the WR MVP at Ohio State and has been on fire this summer, tearing up camp stop after camp stop. He has over 10 offers already.

WR Jeremy Graves, a 6-foot-2, 190-pounder from Maple Heights High in Ohio has already committed to sign with Cincinnati. He has always been a solid camp performer.

TE Jesse James, a 6-foot-7, 245-pounder from South Allegheny High in Pa., is a huge target and will be a great weapon in the 7v7 format. He is already committed to play at Penn State.

TE Darrion Hutcherson, a 6-foot-7, 245-pounder from Dadeville High in Ala., will be the third huge receiving target on the roster and proves that this squad went big with its roster strategy. The Scout.com 4-star is already committed to Auburn and will catch passes from his future QB.

LB Deaysean Rippy, a 6-foot-2, 200-pounder from Sto-Rox High in Pa., is a Scout.com 4-star who is considering schools like Florida State, Florida, Ohio State, West Virginia, and USC. He is as good in coverage as a defensive back. A lot of schools are looking at Rippy as a potential safety prospect.

LB Steve Longa, a 6-foot-2, 210-pounder from Saddle Brook High in N.J., has plus speed and moves well laterally as well. The Scout.com 3-star is committed to Rutgers.

CB Jalen Mills, a 6-foot-0, 180-pounder from DeSoto High in Texas has seen a spike in his recruitment as of late and now has offers from Baylor, Virginia, Kansas, Houston, Iowa State, Memphis, Tulsa, North Texas, Colorado State, Utah State, UTEP on the table.

The team will also use a little bit of youth. 2014 prospect S Brandon Simmons from Mansfield Timberview High in Texas recently picked up his first offer from SMU. Also it is noteworthy that seventh grade Junio Rank All-American Graham Gillispie will be getting the chance to show his wares against the big boys.
