Introducing: William Higginson
Mayfield rising senior William Higginson is a prospect who had an excellent season for his school last year. Here in the off-season Higginson preparing for his final high school season. William Higginson is a little slight in frame, standing 5-foot-9 ½, 174-pounds. But the rising senior came up big last year for Mayfield in their state championship season. Through 14 games he had 43 catches for 879 yards and 10 touchdowns. On the opposite side of the ball, he had four interceptions as a corner. "I think that I'm a well-rounded player," said Higginson. "I'm not the fastest (4.5 forty) or the smartest on the field. But when I step on the field, I do what I need to do to get the job done. My strongest skill is being hard working," he continued. Higginson went out to camp at Louisville and learned some things from the Cardinal staff that he is applying to his game. "I went to Louisville's camp. They were telling me I need to increase my jam strength a little bit (as a corner)," said Higginson. "I need to open up quicker." There are other factors that he's trying to get better at too. "I'm working on recovery speed. I'm doing squats to help me get faster to help me improve recovery speed and doing leg presses," he said. Higginson is hearing from Kentucky, Louisville, Murray State and Princeton. Louisville also told him what he needed to do to hear more from them. "(Louisville will) be looking at me a little more if I can take what I did at camp onto the field. But they'll look more if I can do that live on Friday nights," he said. Higginson is also a standout baseball player for Mayfield. He plays centerfield most of the time, but also plays some catcher. He's getting interest from Murray State, Campbellsville and Kentucky.
