Indiana Speedster Has First Offer
Once may be a fluke, but several times this summer, Lafayette Central Catholic's Danny Anthrop has proven he has legitimate speed, running in the 4.3s and 4.4s throughout the camp season. "I'm 6'1, 180-lbs," he said. "I'm getting all weight back from track that I lost. My best 40 time was at 4.37, and I ran multiple 4.3s." That type of speed and the playmaking ability he has shown since he helped the school win a state title as a sophomore, have lead Anthrop to his first offer. "I have an offer from Buffalo so far. I go to a small school, so most schools don't want to offer just because of tape. They had me out there. The main question was how good my hips were. In the first ten minutes of drills, they decided to offer. After the camp was over, I talked to the coaches. I called them and they extended the offer." Receiving that first offer is what Anthrop hopes is the boost his recruitment needs to get going even more. "It was mainly just a big relief. Hopefully I can get some more and have a little bit more choices to pick from where I want to go to school. The first one was the most important." Anthrop went to ten summer camps, including Indiana, Purdue, Notre Dame, Western Kentucky, Ball State, Western Michigan, Akron and others. In South Bend, his 4.42 forty and overall performance put him firmly on the Irish radar. "They said Coach Kelly really liked me and Coach Kelly was okay with offering me, but they decided to wait and get me back on campus for a couple games and take it from there." In West Lafayette, Anthrop received similarly good feedback. "Purdue said I raised my stock with them and they'll continue to recruit me."
