Melchiori Following Dad's Footsteps
Two weeks after picking up an offer from Kent State, 5-foot-11, 185 pound senior Anthony Melchiori knew that's where he wanted to attend. "First of all, my dad played football there. I thought it was kind of following in his footsteps ,which is cool. I like how Coach Hazell came from Ohio State. He will turn the program around and put it in the right direction. I've visited the school and they have a good communications program, which is what I'm going to study. Putting the academics and football together, I realized it's was the perfect fit for me." Melchiori says that his father was ecstatic when he told him about his decision. "My dad was so excited. He was standing right by me when I committed. He told me congratulations and gave me a hug." Another person excited about the commitment was Kent State Head Coach Darrell Hazell. "When I committed, Coach Hazell said, ‘Our football program just got better.' I took that as such a big compliment. I'm glad the coaches see me coming in and making a difference in the program." The kicker/punter is also looking at possibly playing some Wide Receiver at Kent State. The senior says that while being recruited was fun, he's looking forward to enjoying his final high school season. "It's the biggest relief to know that you're done; you're getting your school paid for and you're playing division 1 football. Now I can enjoy my high school season ahead and know that I have a big future ahead of me. I'm enjoying that such an opportunity could come my way."
