Illinois Backer - Early Profile

Posted May 2, 2003

This fine linebacker prospect had a very good junior year and was also a state wrestling champion. He talks about early contacts and favorites.

Russ Weil, a 6-foot-1, 225-pound, linebacker from Minooka, Illinois will be a prospect to watch in 2003. Weil will be a three-year starter and was named all-area as a junior.

“I don’t have any offers yet,” said Weil. “I’m getting a lot of letters from the Big Ten schools. Iowa and Illinois are probably recruiting me the hardest.

Nebraska, Colorado and Oregon are also writing a lot. My favorites are Illinois, Iowa, Michigan, Purdue and Oregon.”

Weil had 60 tackles, 24 tackles for loss and eight sacks in 2002. He was also the state of Illinois wrestling champion at the 215-pound weight class.

Weil plays mostly a defensive end position on the high school level but projects as a linebacker in college.
