Some of the Windy City's best came out to Lane Tech for the Junior Rank/Marines Camp looking to be…
Fleming Talks Kiel and Iowa Commitment
Maurice Fleming was one of many prospects out at Lane Tech this weekend for the JuniorRank camp sponsored by the Marines. The Iowa commitment is looking for a spot in this year's inaugural All-American game. The Chicago Curie stand out committed to Iowa this summer, and he recently talked to the Hawkeye coaches, who wanted to be certain he was still on board. "They were just making sure that I'm 100%," Fleming said, "still committed to Iowa. That I'm not looking around at other schools, and I kept it real with them, because Coach Parker, Coach Norm Parker and Phil Parker said they would get me to the NFL. Me being a Chicago boy, on the west side, that's all I ever dreamed of." Part of the apprehension is the phone call Fleming received from newest Indiana commitment, quarterback Gunner Kiel. To set the stage, Fleming, a high school quarterback, is projected to cornerback at Iowa and the Hoosiers offered him as a wide receiver. "Gunner, Coach Kevin, Coach Johns, Coach Hagan, they all said I'm still their number one receiver and they would love for me to catch the ball from the number one quarterback in the country. Even though I'm offensive minded, they were telling me to trust my gut and you know. It's kind of hesitant, because my God-brother, DeAngelo Roberts is the running back, and he committed to Indiana (in the 2011 class) and he's still talking to me too and it's just tough right now." Fleming says he is still committed to Iowa, and other than their promise that he would be an early draft choice in the pros, the other main reason is his own recruiting efforts. Fleming has successfully recruited several Chicagoland prospects to Iowa, and says that would be too hard to leave them behind. He also says he is not done. "It's going good. I talked to Ryan (Ward), talked to Jaleel (Johnson), and they're 100% with it. Now I'm talking to Jordan (Diamond). This is going to be his top school and now I'm getting the corner, Dae'Shaun Hurley (from Chicago Julian) and Simeon's quarterback Robert Gregory and just getting a big bond of Chicago kids coming to Iowa." Fleming has not set an official to Iowa yet, but will be back there soon. "I'm taking an unofficial, because my mother hasn't seen the school yet, so I want to take an unofficial on the 7th of August and we're going to see all the academics and stuff for her and see how she likes it." Stay tuned for more from the Junior Rank camp, as Fleming and the rest of the prospects will work out today.
