Top Northeast WR prospect Canaan Severin just made the trek south to Orlando's Gridiron Kings…
Severin breaks it Down
Worcester (Mass.) Academy three-star wide receiver Canaan Severin put his skills on display at the prestigious Gridirion Kings camp in Orlando last weekend. Severin saw his stock rise after testing himself against the nation's elite. Scout.com spoke with the talented athlete who can play or is projected to play a number of positions at the next level. "I am mostly being recruited as a wide receiver," Severin said. "Michigan State and Missouri like me on defense. I'm currently looking at Penn State, Virginia, Iowa, Boston College, Connecticut, Rutgers, Syracuse, Michigan State and Missouri." Some schools are also looking at Severin as a safety and outside linebacker. Severin broke down a few of the schools he is looking at during our brief time that we had with him. Penn State: "It's nice seeing guys from the New England area like Silas Redd and Khairi Fortt going there and doing well. They were very comfortable with Penn State and I think it's cool that they went there and it has worked out. I know Camren Williams who is going there and Armani Reeves is considering them as well. I went there for the Michigan game and I went back in June and I loved it. I really like Coach (Bill) Kenney. Coach (Joe) Paterno is a very sharp man. He is a legend and those are the types of guys that you want to be around." Connecticut: "I really like Coach (Paul) Pasqualoni. He is a very straight forward type of guy. He told me a lot about himself and what he can do for me to make me a better person and player. He coached at Syracuse and coached guys like Donovan McNabb and he was around a bunch of great players with the Dallas Cowboys like Jason Witten." Iowa: "I really like Coach (Kirk) Ferentz and Coach (Ken) O'Keefe they used to coach at my school back in the 1980's. They are awesome guys and Iowa is one of my top schools and I think they have the most stability out of any program. Coach Ferentz will be the coach there as long as he wants. I really like Coach (Erik) Campbell and he has coached guys like Mario Manningham and Braylon Edwards when he was at Michigan. I think I could learn a lot from him." North Carolina State:"being from Massachusetts everyone knows Coach (Tom) O'Brien came from Boston College. Everyone you meet speaks very highly of Coach O'Brien. He is a Marine guy and discipline is first with him and I like that." Staff stability is a big deal to Severin and one of the key criteria he is looking at in a school. "You have to look at how stable a staff is," Severin explained. "It is important to make sure the staff that recruited you is going to be there." Severin is looking at all his options, but four schools are standing out to him. "My top four would be Penn State, Boston College, Iowa and Virginia," replied Severin. "I still want to check out Michigan State and Missouri. I'll decide when I'm ready. I was going to wait longer to make a decision, but it might be sooner."
