Richard Recovering Nicely
"I'm way ahead of schedule," said Jalen Richard, who was one of the leading rushers in Louisiana last year. "Two weeks after surgery and I'm already on just one crutch. Next week, I expect to be walking. I'm already getting full rotation on the exercise bike; it's (recovery) coming up fast. "My doctor says I'll be pad-ready (for full contact) in December or January." As a testament to his toughness, Richard didn't even realize he was seriously hurt until the stunning news came back from his physician. He competed and impressed at Ole Miss' camp - after suffering the injury. "I first hurt it in track season, but I didn't know how bad it was," he said. "It wasn't bothering me. I eventually tore it completely at Ole Miss' camp this summer. I fell during drills and thought I had only sprained my knee. "I got up and continued running around on it. Later, an MRI revealed that it was torn." Prior to the injury, Richard held several offers, including Memphis, Louisiana Tech, ULM and BYU. Have any programs backed off? "Everybody has been pretty stout about continuing to recruit me," he said. "They don't care about the injury. Everyone is fine with it and all of the offers are still on the table. "In fact, I've added a new offer from Air Force. I'm still open to all schools, but Louisiana Tech is standing out. I like their staff. They have a great staff and an up-and-coming program. They're pushing to make a bowl game and do a good job of developing running backs. Ryan Moats - who played for the Texans in the NFL - came out of Tech." Richard also mentioned a couple of other programs. "Before the injury, I was liking Ole Miss," he said. "I really love Ole Miss, but I've seen them pick up a couple of commits at running back. "Memphis is also on the rise. They have a lot of new stuff on their campus, which I like. They didn't win much last year, and that's somewhat of an issue with me. "One thing I look at closely is each school's position coach. I want a running backs coach who is going to do a good job of developing me."
