It's a stellar year for offensive linemen out West, so it's no surprise that five
of the top seven players in the region are linemen.Led by the nation's #1
prospect, Elk Grove (Calif.) Pleasant Grove offensive tackle Arik Armstead, and
the #3 prospect, Tempe (Ariz.) Corona Del Sol offensive tackle Andrus Peat, the
West has an unprecedented five five-star offensive linemen, and the best 1-2
punch on the offensive line since the Tyron Smith/Matt Kalil class in 2008.
Washington has a pair of five-star linemen in Puyallup (Wash.) guard Joshua Garnett, ranked #1 at his position nationally, and in tackle Zach Banner from
Lakewood (Wash.) Lakes. Kyle Murphy from San Clemente (Calif.), rounds out
the five-star linemen.
There are skill players too in the West, including the nation's premier
safety, Shaquille Thompson from Sacramento (Calif.) Grant and receiver Bryce Treggs from Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco, the lone offensive skill
prospect in the Scout Top 50.
Monrovia (Calif.) defensive tackle Ellis McCarthy is the region's premier
defensive lineman, a five-star and a top five defensive tackle nationally.
Just about each state in the region has a four-star prospect, with Armstead,
Peat and Garnett joined by Ronnie Stanley from Las Vegas Bishop Gorman as
Nevada's top prospect, Eagle quarterback Tanner Mangum leading the way for
Idaho, Isaac Seumalo from Corvallis headlining Oregon's rankings, Troy Hinds
from Kaysville Davis the top player in Utah and Paul Thurston the top prospect
in Colorado.
