The state features three five-star prospects in this year’s recruiting class. Two have already announced their college decisions.
Reggie Ragland, the nation’s No. 1 middle linebacker from Madison-Bob Jones, gave an early commitment to Alabama. He remains solid with his decision.
Jameis Winston, the nation’s No. 2 quarterback from Hueytown, committed to Florida State last week. He will still consider MLB options next spring.
Kwon Alexander, the top linebacker in the country from Oxford, is the only five-star who remains uncommitted. Alexander plans to announce his college choice on National Signing Day. He has a top 10 list of schools which includes of Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Florida State, LSU, Miami, Ole Miss, Oklahoma, Oregon and USC. Alexander plans to make a another cut this Friday with six schools remaining on the list.
Other in-state National 100 recruits who have pulled the trigger include Chris Casher, four-star defensive end from Mobile-Davidson, Justin Shanks, four-star defensive tackle from Prattville, and T.J. Yeldon, four-star running back from Daphne. Casher and Shanks have committed to Florida State, and Yeldon gave his commitment to Auburn.
The in-state linebackers are a strong unit with Reggie Ragland and Kwon Alexander the top rated prospects in the country at their position. Tyler Hayes, four-star outside linebacker from Thomasville is committed to Alabama. Cassanova McKinzy, four-star middle linebacker from Birmingham-Woodlawn, gave an early commitment to Auburn. Beniquez Brown, four-star outside linebacker from Florence, remains uncommitted.
Beniquez Brown's current top three schools include Alabama, Florida and Mississippi State. Alabama has the lead for his signature, but the Gators and Bulldogs are making a run at the elite athlete.
The offensive line features Alphonse Taylor, four-star offensive tackle from Mobile-Davidson and Caleb Peterson, four-star offensive guard from Auburn. Taylor gave an early commitment to Florida State. Peterson remains uncommitted and listing favorites as Alabama, Auburn, Georgia Tech and Southern Miss.
Two other offensive skill players who are committed in the Scout300 include Justin Thomas, four-star wide receiver from Prattville and Darrion Hutcherson, four-star tight end from Dadeville. Thomas gave an early commitment to Alabama. Hutcherson committed to Auburn prior to the summer.
Tyler Nero, four-star defensive tackle from Atmore-Escambia County, is the final member of the Scout300. Nero committed to Auburn in July.
