Poway (Calif.) defensive end/linebacker Brian Guendling is eager to begin his senior year, when he thinks more offers will come in.
“I have one offer, from New Mexico State, but I have about eight schools waiting for my first couple of games,” said Guendling. “So I’m waiting for the fall.”
Guendling said the schools most interested were San Diego State, Nevada, Colorado, Fresno State, Oregon State, San Jose State, Arizona State and UCLA were the schools keeping a close watch.
“Colorado e-mailed me on Monday and UCLA, I camped at and they said they’ll be watching me,” said Guendling.
Aside from UCLA, Guendling also camped at San Jose State, Arizona State, Oregon State and Arizona.
“I weighed in at 6-4, 220, so a lot of schools say I’m too small for defensive end but I could do outside linebacker because I ran a 4.59 and have a 30-inch vertical. I feel like my agility and lateral movement is good so I think I’ll have more opportunities.
Guendling said the first offer, from New Mexico State, came out of the blue.
“Coach (Mike) Rutenberg offered me out of the blue and I know I’ll be visiting New Mexico State on an official visit,” said Guendling.
Fresno State also seems to be heavily interested.
“I got a letter from Fresno State saying that I’m on top of their recruiting board,” said Guendling.
So he’s ready to get things going.
“I’m just waiting, and hopefully schools know I can play outside linebacker and be more of a hybrid,” said Guendling.
Academically, Guendling has a 3.2 and will take the SAT in October.
