Rogers talks about commitment
Gary Rogers (Chris Fetters/TheInsiders)

TheInsiders.com spoke Monday night with Mukilteo (Wash.) Kamiak QB Gary Rogers, who has made a verbal commitment to Washington State University. The 6-5, 215-pound Rogers wanted to get the recruiting process over with so he could concentrate on his senior season.
"Making my decision now, it takes all the pressure off," Rogers said. "My senior year is going to be a big year for me, and I want to have fun."
The events that led to Gary's commitment came fast and furious. A week ago last Saturday, Rogers and his family went to Pullman to watch the Cougars' annual Crimson-Gray game. During the day, he was officially offered a scholarship.
"That was my first time there and I was really impressed," Gary said. "I liked the campus a lot and Pullman seems to be a town that really interacts with the University. They do everything together."
One of the main reasons Rogers picked WSU was his conversation with their new QB coach, Timm Rosenbach. "When I talked to their quarterbacks coach and liked him a lot," Gary said. "He played in the NFL, and with his experience I know I can get there too."
Washington State
head coach Bill Doba made his call to the Rogers household two days ago, and that's when Gary pulled the trigger. "I always liked Wazzu and then when I went over there I liked it even more. They have a Sports Management program, which is what I want to do. It's the best decision for me."
Before making his decision, Rogers had been receiving information from
Washington
,
Oregon State
,
Nebraska
,
Michigan State
,
Arizona State
,
Northwestern
and
Notre Dame
. The Huskies, Spartans and Wildcats were showing Gary quite a bit of interest, but don't expect him to back off his pledge one bit.
"Let the Washington State fans know that I'm really happy that I'm going to be a Coug," he said. "I've made my decision. It's final."
