Scouting: Evansville Mater Dei / Indian Creek

Bernie Boots

INDIANAPOLIS, IN. -- The Peyback Classic opener featured a handful of prospects who caught our eye, including two juniors.

RECAP
After a back and forth first half, Mater Dei took control in the second half, pulling away on their way to a 33-10 victory.

Evansville Mater Dei

  • Bernie Boots / Sr. / OT-DT (6-6, 285)
Boots is a big boy, but he wasn't just a big body, he played well too. He's a strong kid who played with decent pad level for his size. Could potentially be a D1 guy, but will definitely play somewhere next year.

  • Ben Polk / Jr. / DE (6-3, 220)
Polk is quick off the edge. He gets off the ball well, plays with good motor and made a lot of plays in the backfield. He's undersized right now, but if he keeps developing, he'll play college football.

  • Cody Hess / Sr. / RB (5-8, 195)
Compact, strong runner with a good burst. Very productive high school back who should have opportunities as a Division-1 walk-on, or be a potential star on the lower levels.

    Indian Creek

  • Matthew Wray / Jr. / QB (6-2, 180)
Young quarterback who made his first start. Has a solid arm, capable of making the necessary throws and could throw on the move too. Will have to improve his decision making and consistency, but he had something to him going up against a tough defense.
