The Breakdown: D'Arthur Cowan
In 2010, the Conquistadors of Olive Branch (8-5) put together a late season run that ended in the second round of the 6A state playoffs with a hard fought loss to South Panola in the second round, 24-13. The year proved to be a coming of age for D'Arthur Cowan who emerged to be one of the state's top pass catchers. D'Arthur reeled in 31 passes for 658 yards and eight touchdowns. Statistically Cowan was one of the top ten Mississippi juniors in yards and scores. One of the things that helps D'Arthur stand apart is his wingspan and ability to make plays in the vertical passing game. He measures in 6-1, 175 pounds and has been timed in the low 4.5s several times in the 40 yard dash. Cowan is a very smooth runner who shows surprising cutting ability despite his longer strides. D'Arthur has excellent hands and is very tough to defend in the redzone in jump ball situations. The pass happy scheme of Coach Bobby Petrino appealed to Cowan in a big way. He wants to play in an offense that will enable him to increase his touches and influence on the game.
