Xavier Grindle, Scout.com's No. 42 nationally-ranked running back, has been nothing less than…
The Breakdown: Xavier Grindle
Xavier is the nephew of former Mississippi State wide receiver Terrell Grindle, so his family knows the way to Starkville pretty well. Despite being slowed early in the 2010 season with an injury, Xavier turned in his third consecutive 1,000 yard plus season. The talented running back amassed nearly 1,900 All-Purpose yards in 2010 including 1,262 rushing yards. Grindle also contributed 28 tackles, nine pass break-ups and an interception on defense. The Eagles finished the season 5-6 after a 1st round playoff loss to Mize in the Mississippi 2A south playoffs. Xavier's coaching staff elected to hold him out of some contact drills this fall in an effort to ensure he was 100% during the season. The Eagles will go as far as Grindle's talented legs can carry them this fall. Xavier has been clocked in the low 4.4 range on multiple occasions and his personal best time was recorded at Mississippi State's Big Dawg camp where Grindle broke through the 4.4. barrier. It is very difficult to corral Xavier once he gets into the open field because more times than not he is going to be able to outrun the safety. He has great vision and does a very nice job of finding the running lane that will allow him to turn a good play into a great play. Grindle is the first East Marion Eagle to commit to Mississippi State since Derrick Cagins and Chris Johnson signed with the Bulldogs in the early 90s.
