Compton (Calif.) Dominguez offensive lineman Lacy Westbrook continues to come back from a foot…
Westbrook Weighs His Options
Scout.com caught up with four-star offensive lineman, Lacy Westbrook from Compton (Calif.) Dominguez for a preseason update. "We ended hell week a couple days ago. Basically, we were playing football from 8am to 6pm every day; it was a great way to get all our plays down," said Westbrook. Westbrook's first regular season game is on September 2nd against Crespi HS. "It's really exciting to be back out there with my teammates. My goal this season is for us to be undefeated and to win the championship. My personal goal is to get six sacks in one game and also to break the pancake record. The standing record at my school is seven in one game," said Westbrook. Westbrook has already received 20 offers from schools all over the country. After having a chance to visit some of the schools in-person this summer, Westbrook has compiled a list of the seven schools that have risen to the top. Westbrook discussed some of his preseason favorites, "The schools that have risen to the top of my list are Washington, Auburn, Oregon, UCLA, USC, SMU and Boise State." Washington-"The coaches and their experience with football is what I like best about their program. They are very knowledgeable about my position. Washington is a great school with nice facilities. I am planning on taking an official there this fall so I can get a feel for the program in person." Auburn- "I really like their Offensive Line Coach; he knows the ins and outs of my position. Auburn is a great school. Also, the school is located close to where all my family is from. Everything is about football at Auburn; it's a great atmosphere with great fans. I also like that they were the National Champions last year. I am planning on taking an official there as well." Oregon- "It's a great school with great facilities and great trainers. Two of my teammates went there and loved playing at Oregon. It is also not too far from home." UCLA- "I took and unofficial to UCLA last weekend to watch one of their scrimmages. They have a good program. I really like their Offensive Line Coach; he seems to really know technique and form. It is also right here in Los Angles, which is a great city with great people." SMU-"Their program is sort of under the radar, but their Offensive Line Coach has had a ton of experience coaching and working in the NFL." USC- "USC is a great school that is based on strong traditions and all their past accomplishments. Two guys from my school went there and now play in the NFL. My ultimate goal is to get to the league but getting a good education is my first priority." Boise State- "Is a good school with great facilities and education. Their strong safety (who went to Dominguez) was just drafted to the Seattle Seahawks. I like the people and the coaches at Boise State, the blue turf is pretty cool." Even though Westbrook has received 20 offers so far, he is still holding out for one more program. "Another program I would still like to receive and offer from is Alabama," said Westbrook. "They have a solid program with great coaches. They are an SEC football powerhouse and I love the competition. Lots of great athletes have come out of their program." Westbrook doesn't seem to have a strict timeline for when he is planning on making a commitment. "If I get invited to play in the U.S. All-American Game I will probably announce my decision at the game, if not I will probably make my decision in either December or January. I am not in a huge hurry; I want to take my time making a decision," said Westbrook.
