Jametrius Crockham made a name for himself last season as one of the best freshman in the Indianapolis area. In two games this season, he has picked up where he left off and then some. In game one against Avon, his electrifying 92-yard touchdown run, his fourth of the night, sealed the victory. Last week, facing defending state champion Fishers, he rushed for 137 yards on just 10 carries, and two touchdowns in a win.
At 6'2, 200-lbs, with great speed, there is little doubt Crockham has the chance to become a very highly recruited athlete. For now though, he is just happy to be helping his team win.
"For this year, it's a big turn around and we gained a lot of players back from the past year, because we were a young team. This year, we came out and played the first two games, it felt good, because we've been playing together since we were younger, third grade, fourth grade, so we all know how we play and work together."
Crockham says the work he put in this offseason has paid off in noticeable ways this fall.
"Yeah, I really worked on getting bigger and working in the weight room a lot and working on my flexibility. My speed, I've gotten faster than I was last year, going to camps and doing drills and cone drills and working at home."
"I went to the Ohio State camp, and I went to Michigan State camp. Ohio State told me to keep my head straight and focus and keep working hard and keep doing what I do each week and try to improve better and better. Michigan State said the same thing. They sent some letters and postcards to me."
The Spartans are one of the teams Crockham says he follows.
"As I was growing up, I liked Miami (FL), but now I kind of like Oregon or Michigan State or Michigan."
Those schools, and many others should like what they see when they put on the tape of this season. A great prospect on and off the field, Crockham is certainly showing that they play more than basketball at Hamilton Southeastern.
