Northern Visits Iowa City
Martinsville High quarterback Hayden Northern has enjoyed a very successful, productive high school career so far, and now he is hoping to find a place to continue that. Could that place be Iowa, the place he visited yesterday? "I'm returning from an unofficial visit to Iowa today to watch them against Tennessee Tech," he said. "It went well. I went there, got there about 10 o'clock, and I was on the field and Coach Johnson came over and talked to me. We were talking about the season and I gave him game tapes, and we talked about recruiting." Because Indiana starts high school ball earlier than other states, Northern already had three weeks worth of video to provide and he hopes that is the key to him earning an Iowa offer. "They're going to evaluate the film I gave them so far," he explained. Northern has kept in contact with a number of schools, as he likes to add more offers. "Coach Wilson had told me that IU would have offered me if Gunner didn't commit. As you know, he did so I'm continuing the recruiting process. I'm also in contact with coaches from Iowa, Western Kentucky, Toledo, Bowling Green, Cincinnati, Indiana State and Illinois State. I go to Toledo soon. They said they would maybe take two this class because they didn't take any quarterbacks last year." Northern did earn an offer over the summer, but that situation is also a little bit up in the air, because of others committing as well. "I received an offer from Coach Cubit at Western Michigan this summer. They offered me when went to camp over the summer and they have two commits, so I think they're just keeping in contact in case something happens." Northern says his recruitment is on the move, but he's most concerned that his team will be on the move. "Although I'm excited about the recruiting process, my focus is on my senior season and winning another mid state conference championship."
