Class 2A No. 1 John Curtis Christian and junior LB Duke Riley smothered 5A Westgate's offense Friday night at the Louisiana Superdome. Read further to get the details on what's happening with the top teams in 2A. With No. 2 Calvary Baptist and No. 3 Evangel Christian both losing, who has moved up to challenge Curtis?

    1. JOHN CURTIS CHRISTIAN (1) -- (2-0) -- Last week, the Patriots defeated 5A Westgate, 27-7. The Patriots, led by DE Torrey Bell (Mississippi State commit) and LB Duke Riley, held Westgate's offense to 67 yards of total offense ( 50 plays). Bell had four tackles, a sack and broke up two passes, according to nola.com. Riley (6-1, 205, Jr.) recorded 15 stops. QB Patrick Morton accounted for 182 yards of total offense (90 passing, 92 rushing, two TDs). The junior signal-caller is averaging more than 14 yards per carry on the season. Sherman Badie scored on a 45-yard run, and senior tight end Dillon Gordon (LSU commit) caught a 43-yard pass. Curtis has a stable of underclassmen at RB, including Badie, Raekwon James, Brandon Porter and Tevin Horton. This week: at 5A East St. John (1-1)

    2. WEST ST. MARY (4) -- (2-0) -- Last week, the Wolfpack defeated 3A Northwest, 31-13. QB Trevell Dixon was 12-of-15 passing for 140 yards before leaving the game with an ankle injury. He's questionable for this week. SMU commit Daijuan Stewart caught 7 passes for 100 yards, and Stanford commit Jontrey Tillman ran for 124 yards. Sophomore Glenn Marsh gained 90 yards with two TDs. This week: 4A Ellender Memorial (0-2)

    3. WINNFIELD (6) -- (2-0) -- Last week, the Tigers defeated 3A-ranked Marksville, 28-7. Winnfield only yielded 124 yards of total offense to a Marksville triple-option attack that rolled up nearly 500 yards the previous week. Senior Alonzo Moore (Nebraska, Mississippi State offers) rushed for 135 yards on 23 carries, and Trey Gilbert added 78 yards with a pair of TDs. This week: at 1A No. 6 St. Mary's (2-0) on Thursday

    4. EVANGEL CHRISTIAN (3) -- (0-2) -- Last week, the Eagles lost to Lafayette (Ms.), 35-34. Backup QB Trey Taylor (starting WR), subbing for injured starter Dakota Duron (wrist), brought Evangel to within a point with a last-minute scoring strike to Judah Jones. Taylor accounted for all five of the Eagles' TDs (two passing, two receiving, one rushing). Evangel raced to a 28-7 advantage before Lafayette -- a 4A Mississippi program that entered the game on a 19-game winning streak -- stormed back behind QB Jeremy Liggins. This week: 5A Barbe (2-0)

    5. EPISCOPAL (5) -- (1-1) -- Last week, the Knights defeated 1A Ascension Catholic, 37-0. WR Brian Bridgewater (6-6, 230-pound four-star basketball prospect) was the recipient of a 60-yard bomb tossed by senior QB Vincent Dellocono, and RB Mike Henry (pictured below) reached the end zone twice. Austin Covillian kicked a 28-yard field goal. This week: at 1A Country Day (1-1)

    6. UNIVERSITY LAB (7) -- (2-0) -- Last week, the Cubs defeated 1A Ascension Christian, 50-0. No other details were available. Class of 2015 RB Nicholas Brossette (6-0, 220) is among the top freshmen in the nation. This week: 1A No. 3 White Castle (1-1)

    7. CALVARY BAPTIST (2) -- (1-1) -- Last week, the Cavaliers lost to 5A No. 10 West Monroe, 37-0. Calvary only managed 66 yards of total offense versus the Rebels and TCU commit James McFarland. QB Nik McCarty is 17-of-61 through the air this season with two TDs and four interceptions. Brandon Wilson (37-164, two TDs) leads the team in rushing. This week: at 5A No. 1 Carencro (2-0)

    8. HOLY SAVIOR MENARD (8) -- (2-0) -- Last week, the Eagles defeated Bunkie, 30-12. Jacob Matthews and John Gutierrez combined for 213 yards rushing and four TDs. This week: at 4A Grant (0-2)

    9. LOREAUVILLE (10) -- (1-1) -- Last week, the Tigers defeated No. 9 St. Thomas Aquinas, 34-31. Junior Jermaine Antoine scored on a kick return and a punt return. This week: 1A Westminster Christian (1-1)

    10. MANY (NR) -- (2-0) -- Last week, the Tigers defeated 5A Southwood, 28-0. QB Tripp Davis threw for 218 yards and a trio of TDs. His favorite target was Cody Kennedy (10-107, two TDs). This week: 3A Loyola College Prep (2-0)

    ON THE BUBBLE: Lake Arthur (2-0), Lakeside (2-0), Vinton (2-0), Pope John Paul II (2-0)

    DROPPED OUT: St. Thomas Aquinas (1-1)
