Scout Presents the Stars of the South, Louisiana Edition. We'll share with you the top performances from week two in the Pelican State.

  • Devin Powell: QB - (6-5, 215, Sr.) - O.P. Walker - The Chargers lost a shootout to Higgins on Saturday afternoon, but Powell had a career day, connecting on 25-of-38 passes for 387 yards and five TDs (to five different receivers). He added a two-point conversion.

  • Damon Gladney: WR - (6-1, 180, Sr.) - Haughton - After missing the opener with a broken hand, Gladney made a triumphant return against Benton with seven catches for 228 yards and four touchdowns. Haughton is currently unbeaten and looks to be headed for a district showdown with Byrd in a few weeks.

  • Cody Jones: QB - (5-11, 180, Sr.) - Ville Platte - Jones completed 15-of-30 passes for 322 yards (almost 22 yards per completion) with three TDs in a loss to North Vermilion. He also had 35 yards rushing, three tackles and forced a fumble. Jones has offers from a couple of in-state programs and is being recruited as an athlete.

  • Nick Julien: RB - (5-11, 175, Sr.) - Loreauville - Julien helped his team to a crucial road win over 2A-ranked St. Thomas Aquinas last Friday, rushing for 221 yards and three TDs. He has 402 yards and five TDs on the year for the Tigers.

  • John Sylvester: RB - (6-0, 190, Sr.) - Port Barre - Sylvester splits touches in his team's ground-oriented offense and the senior made the most of his carries last week, totaling 239 yards rushing on 17 attempts with two TDs (including a 99-yarder).

  • Daniel Taylor: RB - (5-8, 170, Sr.) - Lutcher - A three-star prospect, Taylor (pictured below) tallied 198 yards on the ground with two TDs in his team's victory over McDonogh #35. He also grabbed two receptions for 19 yards. Taylor is one of the top uncommitted prospects in Louisiana.

  • Darrel Williams: RB - (6-1, 190, Jr.) - L.W. Higgins - Williams led the Hurricanes to a 42-32 victory over O.P. Walker with 201 yards rushing and four touchdowns (on 24 totes).

  • Deion Jones: LB - (6-2, 200, Sr.) - Jesuit - Jones appears on this list for the second week in a row; there was no denying the Nebraska commit after he put on a brilliant show in the Blue Jays' 37-0 blanking of Holy Cross. Jones scored on a 75-yard interception return, then promptly picked off a pass on the ensuing drive. He also tackled a ballcarrier in the end zone for a safety.

  • Trey Taylor: WR/QB - (5-10, 180, Sr.) - Evangel Christian - Evangel lost a heartbreaking one-point game to Lafayette (Ms.) on Saturday afternoon, but Taylor nearly helped the Eagles pull off the upset by scoring five touchdowns (two receiving, two passing, one rushing). Normally a starting wide receiver, Taylor was pressed into duty at QB after Dakota Duron suffered an injury.

  • Hakeem Deggs: RB - (5-9, 165, Jr.) - Plaquemine - Deggs ran for 154 yards on 10 carries with a TD and hauled in two receptions for 87 yards and another score. He had a third touchdown called back.

  • Alex Johnson: RB - (5-10, 190, Sr.) - Carencro - Johnson posted his second consecutive 200-plus yard outing last Thursday vs. Northside. In his team's 52-14 win, Johnson had 217 yards and three TDs on 28 carries, in addition to 198 return yards and a reception for 14 yards.

  • Michael McCarthy: K - (5-8, 165, Sr.) - Brother Martin - McCarthy kicked a school-record five field goals (28, 28, 35, 36 and 40 yards) in the Crusaders' win over old Catholic League rival St. Augustine.
