"The Westgate and East St. John games went good for me," said junior center Brandon Godfrey (6-4, 265). "East St. John has a very talented team, but we took the fight to them. (Three-star DT and Arizona commit) Gerron Borne is a very good player. All the articles I've read about him and everything that's been said about him: it's all true. He's a class act with a great attitude and I gained a lot of respect for him.
"Our offensive line has been performing really well. Our quarterback - (junior) Patrick Morton - says he can't even take any credit; that the offensive line has made him more composed and confident. Patrick is a talented athlete who puts in a lot of effort in the weight room and the film room. He's 100% dedicated, prepares hard, and he and I often talk late into the night about football."
Godfrey is free with praise for others but tougher on himself.
"In the jamboree (preseason game vs Covington), I didn't do so hot," he said. "I didn't have a good grade. I ran across (three-star LB and Tennessee commit) Otha Peters on four or five plays and everybody on our team could see why he's headed to Tennessee. He's a natural born playmaker.
"In week one (Franklinton) through week three (East St. John), I've been playing better and better."
Godfrey, whose older brother played at Tulane, is hearing regularly from Pittsburgh.
"They're the only school that's keeping in touch with me yet," he said. "They're recruiting a bunch of our juniors. I took a vacation to Pittsburgh and it's a really nice city with the steel industry. If they offered, I would think long and hard about it."
