Canes now recruiting local DT
Teko Powell has been a part of a very good start for Norland High, which lost to Tampa Jefferson in the state championship game in 2010. "We're 3-0, I've made some pass rush improvements, and have really been playing good," Powell said. Powell, who is playing in the 290-pound range after being in the 245-range last season, committed to Louisville over the summer but has since backed off that pledge. "I'm no longer committed to Louisville. There were a couple reasons that made me decided but mainly my Auntie didn't like how Louisville went about the whole situation - they never talked to my family or anything like that." Powell, 6-foot-2, said that decision has opened the door for other schools and several are still recruiting him. "I've been getting calls from a lot of schools lately," he said. "Alabama, Florida State, LSU, Florida, Vanderbilt, and Miami have all been calling me recently. They're all just keeping in touch. I got some teammates who are committed to UM and they're coming at me so I'm definitely considering them now." Powell said two schools have jumped to the front of the pack. "Alabama and Florida State are two of my favorites right now. They both have great programs and really good academics. I really like them both but I'm still considering all of them." Powell has three official visits in mind as of right now, although none are scheduled yet. "I plan on going to visit Alabama, Florida State, and Illinois for sure," he said. "I'm not sure about the other two yet." Inside the classroom Powell claims a 2.5 GPA and hasn't reported a test score yet.
