“Recruiting is going really well,” said Jamal Marcus (6’2/225). “I am basically down to seven schools. They are
North Carolina, East Carolina, Auburn, Georgia, Georgia Tech, USC, and Florida. I don’t have a leader and am just evaluating all those schools right now. ECU, Florida, and UNC are recruiting me the hardest.”
With offers from each of those schools, Marcus will have to make more tough decisions soon. However, he has an idea of when he would like to make his final decision.
“I will probably make my decision at the end of the season. Even after I commit, I will most likely still take all my officials,” he said.
The Hornets’ defender also knows what he is looking for in a school.
“The academics, coaching staff, and school’s environment are going to be the main factors whenever I make my decision,” Marcus said.
Scout’s No. 66 defensive end is playing a new position this year. The past few seasons Marcus has played exclusively with his hand on the ground. He is playing more of hybrid linebacker/defensive end role this season. Marcus has adjusted well; through five games he has 38 tackles and 8 sacks. Hillside won the state title in North Carolina’s 4A classification last season and is 4-1 this season.
