Flannigan Solid with Tech
Texas Tech 3-star commit Ryan Flannigan, a 6-foot-1, 206-pound linebacker from Marshall High in Fort Bend, Texas is off to a fast start on the field in 2011. "I have been averaging over 13 tackles a game and this last week I had 25 tackles (13 solo, 12 assisted). I have a couple of sacks so far and a few tackles for a loss, so it has been really going good for us so far, the team is doing well." "I feel like I have improved on my open field tackling and they teach that a lot at the Nike Camp and the Under Armour Camp. Last year I was a good open field tackler, but I was not really where I wanted to be. I feel like this year I can move more with the backs as they get closer and then break down on them when I get there." Flannigan originally committed to Baylor, but switched to Texas Tech after the Red Raiders offered and he subsequently took unofficial visit and saw the campus back in the spring. "What caught my attention when I went there for an unofficial visit was that they treated me so nice. They had a plan laid out just for me and they showed me around and I really got the chance to hang out with my teammates that night and during the day. It was just real fun." Flannigan feels like he can fit in to the defensive schemes at Tech and he is looking forward to building something special on the defensive side of the ball. "The defense is real young, but I feel like we are making steps to being good," Flannigan explained. "We have a lot of new great players coming in with my recruiting class and that came in with last year's recruiting class." "They want me to play linebacker and some bandit. They just want me to come in and get a little bigger and get conditioned good and they think I can come in and play." Flannigan will likely take his official visit to Lubbock in January "when the coaches do not have a game and they can spend more time with us", but he does plan to get out to see the Red Raiders unofficially. "Not during the season, not yet, I am supposed to be making the A&M game and the Baylor game. When those games come around I am supposed to be heading down there with my mom." Flannigan is 100% solid to Texas Tech and does not plan to take any other visits at this time.
