The Woodlands linebacker Garrett Hope gets to play against some of the best high school competition…
Northwestern Hope's First BCS Offer
Garrett Hope, a 6-foot-3, 205-pound three-star linebacker from The Woodlands in Texas has seen his offer list grow and grow. Each offer seems better than the last. "They went from Lamar University to Northwestern in Chicago," Hope reported, who also holds division one offers from UTEP, Nevada and New Mexico State. The Northwestern offer was a big one for Hope, because it was the first one from a BCS conference. "They (Northwestern) started recruiting me as a sophomore, but kind of fell off my junior year," started Hope. "They came back this year two or three weeks ago. They called my head coach and told him that one guy dropped off or something or one of their linebackers decommitted and they had a spot now and they were very interested in me." "They called me and pretty much offered and I told them I would have to talk to my family about it." Of the schools which have offered "Nevada and Northwestern" have caught Hope's eye the most, but he lists Oklahoma, Florida State, Kansas State, Alabama and Arkansas as his current favorites and he has hopes to earn an offer from a Big 12 or SEC program to go along with the one from the Big 10. "I haven't gotten much recognition from big schools like them yet and none on my list right now (have offered), but hopefully soon." Academics are fresh on the mind of many players who pick up an offer from Northwestern and Hope takes his grades seriously, but right now he says that he is dialed in on trying to make it as a football player and the football program is going to be the focal point of his final decision making process. "Yes sir," Hope answered when asked if academics were important for him. "But I definitely want to be at a big (football) school. I hate to say it like this, but football means a little bit more than academics do to me right now." The Woodlands football squad is off to a 5-0 start in 2011.
