Jesuit and LB Deion Jones (Nebraska commit) are 5-0 after manhandling John Ehret Friday night. Where do the Blue Jays stack up against the rest of 5A in our post week five rankings? Read further to find out and get your Offensive and Defensive MVPs.

(last week's rank indicated in parentheses)

1. CARENCRO (1) -- (5-0) -- Last week, the Bears defeated Sam Houston, 65-0. Carencro -- with 51 first-half points -- wasted little time in disposing of the Broncos. Senior Alex Johnson easily topped the century mark in rushing, going for 219 yards on seven attempts with four touchdowns (2, 65, 35 and 73 yards). Johnson has almost 1,200 yards with 15 TDs. Junior wingback Jaylan Rose is averaging approximately 10 yards per carry. The Bears love to pound the football with their double-wing offense, but QB Jalen Nixon (pictured at bottom) can also get it done through the air. In week four, Nixon helped senior WR Shawn Thomas set a school-record with 10 receptions. Three-star DT Jacoby Briscoe leads the defense, while 6-foot-4, 300-pound offensive lineman Jordan Walker paves the way for a vaunted running game. Carencro is averaging 54 points per game. This week: Comeaux (2-3)

2. ST. PAUL'S (2) -- (5-0) -- Last week, the Wolves defeated then-No. 5 Mandeville, 48-14. St. Paul's sprinted to a 27-0 lead at the half, according to Ted Lewis of the (New Orleans) Times-Picayune. RB Kris Brumfield scored twice and amassed 203 yards (combined rushing/receiving). Sophomore Marcus Gaines dashed for a long TD and senior Markell Powell accounted for another score (14-yard scoring strike from QB Patrick Duncan, who was 12-of-15 for 172 yards). On the season, four Wolves have run for a minimum of 124 yards, including leading rusher Dylan Long (senior fullback with 331 yards on 60 carries). Brumfield (226) and Gaines (220) have teamed up for 426 yards receiving. Junior safety Jay Washington has an interception and eight pass break-ups. This week: 4A Salmen (3-2)

3. DUTCHTOWN (3) -- (5-0) -- Last week, the Griffins defeated Destrehan, 28-7. Junior QB Mason Nickens and five-star senior RB/S Landon Collins ran for a combined 210 yards with three touchdowns. Collins was off to the races on the first play from scrimmage, reaching the end zone from 74 yards out, according to David Helman of nola.com (Times-Picayune). DB Jacolby Bureau recovered two fumbles and also intercepted a pass. DL David Elias (Arkansas State offer) and Darrien Batiste (UL-Lafayette commit) are formidable obstacles on the front line. WR Shelby Christy has made numerous big-time catches in the downfield passing game. TE Alec Osborne is an underrated performer. This week: at St. Amant (4-1)

4. ACADIANA (4) -- (4-1) -- Last week, the Rams defeated Sulphur, 38-14. Senior Jeff Brown crossed the goal-line three times (two rushing, one kick return). Brown returned the opening kick 99 yards to paydirt. Junior defensive end Claude George intercepted a pass. QB Stryker Trahan, an Ole Miss baseball commit, tacked on a second-half touchdown. The Rams defense hasn't allowed more than 14 points in a game, but they'll be tested this week against a Barbe team that is putting more than 38 on the board each game. Acadiana's sole loss was in week two to St. Paul's. This week: Barbe (3-2)

5. BYRD (6) -- (4-0) -- Last week, the Yellow Jackets were open. Byrd is averaging nearly 41 points per game with a Wing-T offense driven by speedy quarterback Richard Carthon. Haughton (5-0) comes to town this Friday in the district opener for each team. The Buccaneers have an explosive offense of their own (avg. 39 ppg) with WR Damon Gladney (Louisiana Tech offer) serving as the deep threat. Carthon ran for 141 yards and two touchdowns in a week one win over West Monroe (which was nationally-ranked entering the contest). This week: Haughton (5-0)

6. JESUIT (9) -- (5-0) -- Last week, the Blue Jays defeated John Ehret, 41-20. RB Paul Stanton gashed Ehret's defense for 151 yards and three touchdowns, according to Doug Moreau of nola.com (Times-Picayune). Three-star LB Deion Jones is committed to Nebraska. Jesuit lead 27-0 at intermission. This week: Chalmette (5-0)

7. WEST JEFFERSON (10) -- (5-0) -- Last week, the Buccaneers defeated 4A Hammond, 48-21. Junior wideouts Devin Scott and Ronald Lewis each caught two touchdown passes, according to Joseph Nardillo of nola.com. Jamell Gilbert gained 54 yards with three rushing TDs. QB David Davis connected on 10-of-13 throws for 252 yards. This week: Brother Martin (4-1)

8. ARCHBISHOP RUMMEL (NR) -- (4-0) -- Last week, the Raiders defeated 4A Holy Cross, 34-13. Rummel's offense is led by junior dual-threat QB Damian Williams. UL (Lafayette) commit Dominick Bilich is among the state's best offensive linemen. The Raiders didn't play in week one (due to Tropical Storm Lee). This week: at Thibodaux (1-4)

9. HAUGHTON (NR) -- (5-0) -- Last week, the Buccaneers defeated 4A Fair Park, 42-12. No details were available. WR Damon Gladney caught seven passes for 228 yards and four touchdowns earlier this season vs. Benton. Last year, Haughton reached the Class 4A quarterfinals behind the passing of QB Dak Prescott (now at Mississippi State). The Bucs moved up to 5A following reclassification. This week: at Byrd (4-0)

10. SCOTLANDVILLE (8) -- (5-0) -- Last week, the Hornets defeated 4A McKinley, 27-26. Scotlandville drops two spots, despite getting the W. The Hornets were sluggish against a McKinley squad that lost to Class A West St. John in week four. Scotlandville trailed McKinley by a 20-6 margin before rallying. WR Larry Clark snagged the go-ahead touchdown pass. This week: Denham Springs (3-2)

DROPPED OUT: Mandeville (4-1), Brother Martin (4-1)

ON THE BUBBLE: Fontainebleau (5-0), Chalmette (5-0), Parkway (5-0), Bonnabel (4-0), Ouachita Parish (4-1), Higgins (3-1)

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: TIE: Trey Quinn, Barbe (16 receptions, 335 yards, five total TDs in 38-35 loss to 4A No. 3 St. Thomas More); Carlton Perkins, Walker (373 yards rushing, all three of his team's touchdowns in 21-19 road win over previously-unbeaten Class 2A No. 2 West St. Mary)

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Jacolby Bureau, Dutchtown
