Louisiana 3A Top 10 Rankings - Week 5

No. 1 Patterson (4-0) pounced on Berwick last Friday, hanging 59 points on the board in the first half. Senior WR Jaydrick Declouet - one of two University of Houston commits on the Patterson roster - has eight touchdowns on the year. 1. PATTERSON (1) -- (4-0) -- Last week, the Lumberjacks defeated Berwick, 59-6. Three-star CB Trevon Stewart continues to make plays all over the field. Stewart scored on a run, a punt return, and a pick six. He's committed to Houston, as is teammate Jaydrick Declouet (three-star WR). Recruiting fans continue to watch Lorenzo Phillips' every move. The four-star linebacker is pledged to Florida, but Houston, LSU and Texas A&M retain hopes of landing the senior. TE Deondre Skinner is one of the top juniors in the state. LB Tremaine Lightfoot has multiple offers. Patterson's defense has surrendered only 18 points this year. This week: Kaplan (2-3)

2. ST. CHARLES CATHOLIC (2) -- (5-0) -- Last week, the Comets defeated 2A Jeanerette, 49-0. Marcus Hall staked SCC to an early 7-0 lead with a 35-yard punt return, according to Brendan Twist of nola.com (Times-Picayune). RB Lazedrick Thompson, a Tulane commit, ran for a nine-yard touchdown and LB Nick Montegut recovered a fumble in the end zone. DB Jeffrey Hall has four interceptions on the year, including two vs. Miller-McCoy Academy and two vs. Northshore. The Comets' defense has allowed a stingy 17 points (less than four per game). DE/LB La'Jaylin Smith is a hard-hitting senior. This week: Donaldsonville (2-3)

3. LORANGER (3) -- (5-0) -- Last week, the Wolves defeated 2A St. Thomas Aquinas, 20-17. QB B.J. Rainey found junior athlete Jeryl Brazil with a fourth quarter TD pass to rally Loranger to a come-from-behind road victory. Rainey also hooked up with WR Jonathan King for two touchdowns, according to lorangerhighschool.net. Brazil - who runs an electronic 4.35 - is committed to LSU. This week: Albany (4-1)

4. AMITE (4) -- (4-1*) -- Last week, the Warriors defeated 4A Franklinton, 35-0. Head coach Alden Foster's squad easily handled the defending Class 4A state champion Demons. Reginald Porter accounted for four touchdowns (two rushing and two passing) and 335 yards of total offense. Chester Brumfield returned a fumble for a 60-yard touchdown, according to the (Baton Rouge) Advocate. Amite's defense was ferocious, yielding only four first downs. LB Juwaan Rogers is ranked as the No. 111 outside linebacker in the nation by Scout.com. Only one opponent (5A Ponchatoula) has scored on the Warriors' defense. *Amite beat Madison Prep in week four, but the game reportedly won't be factored into the LHSAA's playoff power ratings (Madison Prep is a Baton Rouge charter school that isn't a member of the LHSAA). This week: at No. 10 Independence (4-1)

5. LIVONIA (5) -- (5-0) -- Last week, the Wildcats defeated Brusly, 26-20 (three OT). RB Mark Lewis carried 29 times for 109 yards and a touchdown, according to William Weathers of the Advocate. QB Mason Torres passed for 213 yards and two scores, including an 87-yarder to Brandon Armand. Senior Xavier Joseph is one of the state's best offensive linemen. This week: No. 6 Rayne (5-0)

6. RAYNE (6) -- (5-0) -- Last week, the Wolves defeated South Beauregard, 28-26. No other details were available. Through four weeks, RB Jalen Williams paced Rayne with 467 yards rushing and seven touchdowns, according to Mickel Ponthieux of the Beauregard Daily News. Rayne went 3-7 in 2010. This week: at No. 5 Livonia (5-0)

7. RICHWOOD (7) -- (4-1) -- Last week, the Rams defeated 2A Mansfield, 41-7. Richwood's defense gave up only 74 yards, according to Jerit Roser of the (Monroe) News-Star. Antonio Wilson went for 216 yards on the ground. Andrick Mitchell ran for a touchdown. Senior DB Tre Hunter is a shutdown corner. This week: Carroll (2-3)

8. JENNINGS (8) -- (4-1) -- Last week, the Bulldogs defeated 2A Ferriday, 31-19. No other details were available. Senior Khristopher Watkins was the TE MVP at the Lafayette National Underclassmen Combine. Jennings can make a statement this Friday with a victory over perennial power Notre Dame of Crowley, which is struggling this fall. This week: at Notre Dame (2-3)

9. PORT ALLEN (9) -- (5-0) -- Last week, the Pelicans defeated 1A White Castle, 27-6. No other details were available. Port Allen has kept three of five foes in double-digits. Junior athlete Darian Claiborne is a team leader. This week: at St. James (0-5)

10. INDEPENDENCE (NR) -- (4-1) -- Last week, the Tigers defeated Sarah Reed, 54-6. Miquel Toefield leads the team in rushing with 561 yards. The junior has eight touchdowns and is averaging nearly eight yards per carry. This week: No. 4 Amite
