Midlands: Three on the Rise

Ben Weaver

After spending hours in the film room Scout.com National recruiting Analyst Greg Powers takes a look at three prospects in the Midlands who could be in line for a rankings bump in the very near future.

There are plenty of players outside of the Scout300 making waves this season, but here is a look at three players who are ranked #50 or below at their positions and should be in line for a rankings bump in the near future.

1. Ben Weaver – Klein HS (3-star, #64 OLB) - Boise State Commit
These type of physical, throw-back linebackers are the ones that usually think are going to sign with an Ohio State, Oklahoma or Penn State, but Weaver has some "Blue" pumping in his veins and he will be going to play for Boise State in college. The Broncos will be getting a linebacker who is not afraid to finish off tackles and will pursue the ball from sideline-to-sideline. He is currently rates as an OLB, but at 6'1, 225 he should probably be rated as a MLB.

2. Dede Westbrook – Cameron Yoe (3-star #123 WR)- Uncommitted
At 5-foot-11, 175 he does not have the size that Jaxon Shipley possesses, but you would appreciate many of the same qualities they both have as players when you pop in the game film. Westbrook is a tremendous athlete that can push himself to make something special happen. He has tremendous leaping ability and seems to just hang in the air, but is a technician. He will drive defensive coordinators crazy in college.

3. Ikenna Nwafor – Cistercian (3-star, #50 DT) - Stanford Commit
This big 6-foot-3, 305-pounder, is harder to judge on film because he is so much more powerful and so much bigger than most he lines up to, but he is evidently more explosive than some players listed ahead of him at the position, even in the state of Texas. By the time it is all said and done he could end up being talked about the being the best in the class and with the right development he could find himself walking on a stage and being handed an NFL jersey.
