Ben Tamburello talks decision

Ben Tamburello, three-star center from Hoover-Spain Park, Ala., decided to stay close to home for his college future. He talked about his commitment to Samford.

“I felt really comfortable there," said Ben Tamburello. "I have been there a few times. I went to the game this past weekend. I liked everything I saw. I know I will fit in well there.

"None of the other offers I had stacked up academically to what Samford can offer me. The academics were way ahead of everyone else. That’s what was most important to me during the whole process."

Tamburello has formed a tight bond with members of the coaching staff.

"I was recruited by coach Herring, coach Trickett and coach Lashlee," he said. "I love all of them. They are all great guys. Coach Lashlee came from Auburn. We are running the same offense as Auburn. Coach Herring and I get along. He is real cool. I really like all of them."

The in-state lineman is happy to have the decision behind him, but uncertain about other visits.

“It feels great to be committed,” said Tamburello. “I don’t have to worry about anything. I don’t have to talk to coaches. I can sit back and enjoy the rest of the season.

“I am not really sure if I will take any other visits. I am really solid to Samford. I might do it for fun, but probably not."

Spain Park travels to Vestavia Friday night.
