Purdue accepted the commitment of Coral Springs (FLA) defensive back Dion Witty, following a weekend…
Mike's Take: Purdue DB commit
What to Like: Coral Springs High's Dion Witty emerged as one of the best cornerback prospects in Broward County this season. He's gone back and forth between cornerback and safety at the prep level and shows the ability to really mix things up. He's a big hitter for someone his size and can play bigger than he is when jamming receivers coming off the line of scrimmage. He's aggressive in coverage too -- sometimes maybe too much so -- and is very strong. He's on a very good Coral Springs team right now that is 6-0 on the season. What may concern you: At 5-foot-10 and about 170 pounds, he's not one of the biggest corners around and even though he plays bigger, his size could still be a limitation when in college going up against bigger and more physical receivers. And for a kid his size, he doesn't have burner type speed. He runs fairly well but lacks elite level athleticism. You won't see him making a difference on the offensive side of the ball or anything, either. Bottom Line: Witty is one of the top cornerback prospects in Broward County and he also had BCS offers from schools like Indiana, Texas Tech, Vanderbilt, and Minnesota. Recruited like a low-end three star prospect, Witty gives Purdue another quality defensive back prospect from the state of Florida.
