Terps Commit Gallo Heading to Chesapeake Bowl
Maryland fans have the chance to see class of 2012 commit P.J. Gallo a bit early. The Council Rock High South (Holland, Pa.) tight end accepted an invitation to play in the Chesapeake Bowl, which will be played Dec. 30. The location is yet to be announced, but it will be played in the Baltimore/Washington, D.C., area. "It's a great honor," Gallo said. "It's a cool game. It's only second year of it but there are a lot of good players in it. I talked to the Maryland coaching staff, and they wanted me to play in it." The 6-foot-4, 235-pound Gallo said one of the reasons he elected to play in the game was the proximity of it to the Maryland camps. "That's pretty cool," Gallo said. "It was a very intriguing thing with the game being down in Maryland. It's one of the first chances people down there get a chance to see you. They see film and all that stuff, but as far as live play, it's a great opportunity." Gallo also knows the trek isn't too far. He was at Maryland for the season-opening win against Miami, and he will make his official visit during the second week of December, when the Terps are planning on having many of their committed players on campus. "Going down there, the excitment of place is unbelievable," Gallo said. "And one day to be a part of it is really cool. One day, to be on field, is a really cool, and you want to be out there now." Gallo said other schools are leaving him alone in the recruiting process, and it as allowed him o enjoy his senior season. "It's been pretty good," he said. "It's a great feeling. It really is, especially during the season. I can just concentrate on going out there and doing all I can do for my high school team. It's very nice." Council Rock is a triple-option team, so much of Gallo's time on offense is spent blocking. He has five catches for 57 yards. "We throw very few passes," he said. "I'm basically a glorified tackle out there." Defensively, Gallo is moving between defensive end and middle linebacker. He has two sacks and 54 tackles.
