After beginning the year 1-3, West Orange-Stark has gone on a winning spree, reeling off four straight victories. On Friday, the Mustangs edged Bridge City (21-16) to seize first place in District 21-3A. West Orange-Stark has demonstrated a propensity for prevailing in close contests, as the Mustangs have won their last three games by a combined total of 18 points.
"We've had intense games," said cornerback DaCarlos Renfro. "We've had a few nailbiters. Against Kirbyville, I had an interception and returned a punt 60 yards. In the Hampshire-Fannett game, I returned a punt 90 yards, and against Orangefield, I returned an interception 80 yards."
Renfro has five picks on the year and is looking to parlay his prolific season into more scholarship offers.
"Utah is very interested," said Renfro, who has a teammate (Justin Thomas) committed to the Utes. "They will review my new highlight tape. I'm also thinking about visiting UTSA and Louisiana Tech. They've both been in contact. I'm considering a visit to Arkansas for their game against Mississippi State (Nov. 19th)."
This week, Renfro and the Mustangs host Silsbee (7-1).
