Hulick "Absolutely Loves" SMU
"Coach (Adrian) Klemm and I have been shooting the breeze," said Carl Hulick in reference to the SMU offensive line coach/recruiting coordinator who procured a verbal commitment from Hulick in mid-August. "I'm planning to visit the week after Thanksgiving with (Khalil) Pettway and (Gabriel) Marks. I absolutely love SMU, and there's no other place I'd rather be; SMU is where I will be." Hulick's squad is 5-3 on the year. "We're really gelling as a team," he said. "We have a junior running back who has stepped up. He has 1,400 yards rushing, and our quarterback recently threw for 324 yards. I'm playing guard on offense. We're using the pistol formation and it's going real nice. I'm taking all of the reps on offense and when the opponent starts driving or it's an important down, I'll get in on defense. "I'm in great condition. This week, we play an 0-7 team (Anaheim Canyon), but we can't overlook them. We have to stay focused, because a scared team that needs a win can be the most dangerous team. There's three rounds in the playoffs, and we could conceivably face Yorba Linda and La Habra (Mike Sparling's alma mater). Yorba Linda is 7-0 and a local school with a bunch of players I grew up with. If we play them, there will be a lot of tension. "On the year, I've forced two fumbles with a bunch of tackles for loss, and I have 14.5 pancakes. At most other schools, I'd have at least 30 pancakes. Our coach is real strict and tough on grading us with those."
