Overstreet Commits to Longhorns

Texas has secured a commitment from Tatum dual-threat athlete Jalen Overstreet, who will get his first shot as a quarterback in Longhorn's system.

Jalen Overstreet, a 6-foot-3, 207-pound Scout.com four-star prospect secured an offer from the Texas Longhorns late last week.

"It was shocking, really out of the blue," Overstreet said to LonghornsDigest.com publisher Kevin Flaherty. "It was a weird number, so I almost didn't pick it up. I usually don't when I don't know what the number is, but I just so happened to pick it up this time.

After getting the good news he traveled to Austin to see the Horns dismantle the Kansas Jayhawks 43-0 and before leaving he accepted the offer.

Schools like Arkansas, Texas Tech, Missouri, Michigan, Baylor and a host of others had extended the talented two-way star a scholarship, but an offer from the Horns was the one he wanted all along.

He is currently rated as a Top 300 safety by Scout.com, but will get his first opportunity at UT under center.

"I wanna thank God for all that he has blessed me with, and I will keep praying so that he will continue to put opportunities in my life and continue to bless me," Overstreet stated.

Overstreet on Overstreet: "I think I've developed into a good leader. I'm becoming a much more efficient passer and my accuracy has improved. I have a good arm.

"I can also run, but that's usually a last resort for me.

"I'm always working on my accuracy, timing and footwork. I want to not hesitate and get the ball out quicker."

Overstreet finished his junior season with 1,900 yards passing, 28 touchdowns and four interceptions. Overstreet also had 60 carries for around 700 yards and 16 touchdowns. Overstreet can bench 285-pounds, squat 490 and claims a 38-inch vertical jump.
