It's down to Mississippi State and Tennessee for Beniquez Brown but he says he's ready to only have…
Brown Down to Two?
Beniquez Brown profile This week was the first week in months that Beniquez and his teammates were not on the football practice field preparing for a game. "We didn't make the playoffs," said Brown. "We had a good win last week, but we've known for a couple of weeks that we weren't going to make it. "We had to win back in week eight and we didn't, so we can't blame it on anybody else. "We went 7-3, but all three of those losses were in region play and that kept us out of the playoffs." Like many high school stars, Brown traded one high school sport for another as soon as football ended. "I am playing basketball," said Beniquez. "I am the biggest guy on the team, but I play the two. "I like to shoot the ball and I feel like I am pretty good at it. "We had a good season last season. We went 24-8. Our coach expects a lot from us this season. "It's a lot of fun playing basketball and I am looking forward to the season." It appears Beniquez will look to earn three varsity letters in this his senior year. "I am going to run track this spring, so I can keep working on my speed," said Brown. "I want to stay active and get ready for college." Speaking of college, the Florence High standout is narrowing his field of suitors and it appears that the his recruitment now boils down to a school from the SEC East and one from the SEC West. "I am still getting a lot of calls and I am hearing from the same schools that have been recruiting me from the beginning," explained Brown. "It doesn't really get too stressful on me because I don't let it. "If I am doing some school work or working on some other things, then I just don't answer the phone. "I don't do as many interviews anymore either, but a lot of them ask the same few questions. "Right now I am looking at Mississippi State and Tennessee. Both of them are recruiting me pretty hard." While the finalists appear to be set this is not the first time, Brown has named favorites. Throughout the process the one constant has been Mississippi State. Brown's cousin, teammate and close friend, Kivon Coman, has already committed to the Bulldogs. Beniquez admits that is a plus for Dan Mullen's squad. "We are always together," said Brown. "He's with me right now. "I like it over there at Mississippi State, but I still thinking about everything. "I don't really have a timeframe for my decision, but I know it's going to be soon. "I feel like I am about ready to get it all over with."
