Ohio State verbal commitment SirJoseph Welch is the total package. This super free safety has the speed to make plays and cover ground when the ball is in the air and he's strong enough to make plays in the box. Welch is a sure tackler that's looking for the knockout on every play.
SirJoseph Welch
, a 6-foot, 183-pound, safety from Columbus (Beechcroft) flew under the recruiting radar this spring but he’s on top of the world now.
Welch was offered by
Ohio State
last week and promptly committed to the Buckeyes on the spot.
Sirjo won’t have to leave his hometown to play his college football and he gets to play for the defending national champs to boot.
Beechcroft head coach Tom Dunlap sent me some film of Sirjo Welch this past weekend and I’ve watched it three times already.
Sirjo is a specimen. He’s absolutely tenacious from his free safety position. It takes Sirjo about .6 seconds to make it to the line of scrimmage on run plays and he usually arrives in a nasty mood.
It’s been a long time since I’ve seen a free safety with Welch’s speed, athletic abilty and football sense.
Sirjo is equally strong against the run as he is the pass. He’s a ball hawk safety that just makes plays. Welch causes fumbles with his big hits and when he intercepts the ball, he uses his 4.4 speed to out run the opposition to the end zone.
I can’t say enough about Sirjo Welch. He has a very bright future ahead of him at Ohio State and I could definitely see some All-Big Ten honors coming his way in the future. Buckeye fans will love Sirjo’s aggressiveness, toughness and athleticism. On several plays, Welch comes out of nowhere to deliver a big hit and half the time, he’s taking out not only the ball carrier but three of his own teammates while making the tackle.
Sirjo can sometimes get too aggressive. He has no regard for the person carrying the football or any person in his path to the ballcarrier. He arrives at every play 110 miles per hour.
Sirjo Welch will be a Midwest “Hot 100” member and he’s a finalist for pre-season national “Hot 100” recognition.
