Bellarmine Prep is the top-ranked team in 4A in Washington, and unbeaten on the season, and Liufau has been a big reason why.
Last weekend, the Lions knocked out Edmonds-Woodway, Liufau throwing two touchdown passes and running for two, and playing only three minutes into the second half before a running clock.
After just missing the state championship game a year ago, losing in the semifinals, Liufau and Bellarmine are looking to amend things and return to the Tacoma Dome for the state semifinals and finals, in front of their hometown fans.
"It's been a big motivator, to exceed what we did last year," said Liufau. "Were not focusing on the distractions around us."
Bellarmine was at full strength for their game against EW.
"We did a really good job watching film and prepping this week," said Liufau. "It's amazing when we are at full strength. It lifts burdens off other people's shoulder."
Liufau is a player we've seen a lot the last couple of years, but each time we saw him, he was under a heavy rush. In the playoff win, Liufau had all the time in the world and he said it made a huge difference.
"It's tons and tons of confidence," said Liufau. "It gives me comfort to sit back in the pocket and pick my receivers."
On the recruiting front, Liufau is hearing from a number of schools.
This weekend, Bellarmine Prep hits the road to play Vancouver (Wash.) Skyview.
