Inglewood (Calif.) wide receiver Devian Shelton announced his commitment to Arizona earlier this season when Coach (Mike) Stoops still had his job intact. During all the confusion about who the new coach would be, Shelton changed his commitment to a soft verbal. As of last week, Arizona announced that Rich Rodriquez would take over as the Wildcats new head coach. Shelton talked about what has been his interaction with Rodriquez so far. "He has called me once," said Shelton. "He seemed like a nice guy but I have never meet him, so I won't really know anything until I take my official there." Rodriquez has decided to have all of Arizona's verbal commits come out for an official the same weekend. "Coach Rodriquez said they were going to have everyone out the same weekend and it was going to be sometime during basketball season," said Shelton. Since Shelton has opened up his commitment and is now evaluating all of his options, he recently took an official to Oregon State. "It was better than I expected it to be. The team is better than I thought," said Shelton. "All the coaches are really cool, including Coach Riley. He is one of the coolest head coaches I have ever met." Shelton talked about how the Beavers see him fitting into their program. "They want me at corner, which is great because that's the position I want to play," said Shelton. "The want me to come in and play early. The coaches said, I am their number one priority." Shelton discussed how Oregon State stacked up against all of his options. "I would say Oregon State is my number one right now," said Shelton. "USC is number two, along with San Diego State followed by Arizona." Shelton has not yet received an offer from USC, but has been keeping into touch with their defensive backs coach. "I talk to Coach (Sammie) Knight a lot," said Shelton. "He really likes me and says he is trying to get me an offer." Shelton will be taking his next official to San Diego State this weekend. "I really like their school," said Shelton.
